If you can answer YES
to any of the questions below you should think about racing
- Do you already race dinghys?
- Have you recently learnt to sail and are getting bored with
just pottering around on the water?
- Do you want to add some excitement to your sailing?
At TLSC we have a full programme of racing throughout the year
organised into Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Series as well
as a number of special events during the year. Our racing is
serious but good natured - providing you know the basic
"rules of the road" you will enjoy competing against
everybody else. Each "series" race consists of 2 races
with an all-important tea break in the middle. During the winter
races are about 50 minutes long and in summer 1H15.
Trophies are awarded for all the racing events at the November
AGM, so you could be the proud holder of a trophy to show your
friends. Unfortunately you will be asked to return it unless you
go on to win the following year as well!
Our main fleets are Comet, Enterprise, Laser and Toppers. There
are usually between 10 and 15 boats on the water with each class
having their own start time based on their handicap - the idea
being that at the end of the race the fastest boats which
started last should have caught the slower ones hence the actual
winner is whomever can sail their boat the best, regardless of
class. It can get quite exciting on days when the whole fleet
converges on the final few marks of the course!
Other special races held at the lake include the BRASS MONKEY on
boxing day, EASTER TROPHY held over 3 days at Easter, JUBILEE
EVENT in July followed by a BBQ and the GEOFF FOSTER TROPHY in
October. Most of these races are mass starts with you finish
time adjusted according to personal handicap.
