Taplow Lake Sailing Club was formed in 1956 as part of the ICI recreational club. Sailing has taken place every year since and we plan some special celebrations this year to celebrate the event.

Taken in 1958 the Enterprises don't look much different but the cars have certainly changed a bit. The first rescue boat was a fishing punt and as there was no clubhouse clothes were hung on the fence to dry!
Fashions have certainly changed a bit - You don't see many people launching boats in waistcoats any more and the floating pontoon is definately safer than it was then! These pictures show the maiden launch of a homemade Enterprise without the use of a proper slipway.
Another maiden launch being celebrated with a babycham. Note the gravel workings in the background as Summerlease were still active at the site then. No sailing on this day but the first starters hut was now in position.
Here is the first clubhouse being assembled from old prefabs - this lasted until 1985 when the present brick building was built. The club was originally just for ICI members not all of which looked like pirates!
